How to get involved.
TechWatch Basel works because innovators and researchers engage early. Whether you develop the technology or use it, there is a clear route in.
For innovators of emerging technologies.
If you develop a novel life-science technology, platform, or method, TechWatch Basel offers a route into an internationally recognised research campus with the biology, the clinical specimens, and the users who can put it to the test.
What you get
Access to real research questions
Work with research groups tackling biological problems that stress-test what your technology can do, from tissue architecture and cell states to translational readouts on clinical material.
Direct route to clinical samples and trials
Through the Department of Biomedicine and the University Hospital, TechWatch Basel opens access to large, well-curated collections of clinical samples and ongoing clinical trials, so your technology can be validated on translationally relevant material at scale.
High-end prototyping environment
Basel core facilities can host your instrument or workflow, run it against community-agreed benchmarking standards, and generate reference datasets the whole ecosystem can build on.
Early stakeholder engagement
Meet decision-makers from academic institutions, hospital labs, and industry partners in one framework. Feedback from these users shapes your product and opens doors to the wider Basel life-science community.
How engagement works
- Introduction. Reach out with a short description of your technology and the biological questions you think it addresses.
- Scoping conversation. The TechWatch committee identifies a fit within the current scouting cycle and matches you with a lead research group and core facility.
- Prototype. Hands-on evaluation in a Basel facility, in close exchange with committee members and industry stakeholders.
- Benchmark. Shared, transparent benchmarks against agreed metrics. Results feed both your development and Basel's implementation decisions.
- Implementation. Successful technologies move into routine use across core facilities, with continued exchange as they mature.
For academic labs.
If you run a research group on the Basel campus, TechWatch Basel is how you get access to the technologies that will shape your next set of experiments, without having to scout, benchmark, and negotiate them alone.
What you get
Early access to novel methods
See emerging technologies before they hit the general market. Pilot them on your samples and questions, with dedicated support from the core facility and technology partner.
Shared benchmarking, shared cost
Move past vendor demos. Community benchmarking means you evaluate multiple platforms against the same standards, at a fraction of what going it alone would cost.
A voice in what gets adopted
Basel's core facilities make investment decisions based on what TechWatch surfaces. Bringing your research question into the Forum influences which technologies actually land on campus.
How engagement works
- Surface a need. Bring a technology, method, or unanswered question to the TechWatch Forum, individually or with your core facility.
- Join the scouting cycle. If the committee picks it up, you become part of the working group that scopes the evaluation.
- Prototype together. Run pilots on your samples, alongside other Basel groups asking related questions.
- Benchmark and decide. Contribute to the shared assessment. The output informs both your own workflow and campus-wide implementation.
- Stay in the loop. Ongoing news, benchmarks, and demo days keep you in touch with what is coming next.
One form for both audiences. Tell us who you are and which technology areas are of interest. Submissions land in a Google Sheet the committee can review; we will follow up during the next scouting cycle.
